At the time of the Restoration of St. Paul's Cathedral, St.
Paul's Day, 25 January 1925

"I, PAUL, give thanks"—what time again men fill

The master-builder's needs, of their free will,

The least of all, who counted all things loss

And glorying, gloried not save in His cross

Who is the sure Foundation, God's dear Son—

Take heed, in building, how we build thereon.

"I, Paul, exhort you"—seeking for His aid,

See that our Faith be well and truly laid,

So shall we witness, strengthened by His hand,

By Faith, unto this Grace wherein we stand;

And, with their patience who in Christ are wise,

Rejoicing see new piers of Hope arise.

"I, Paul, beseech you"—praying that He bless,

Set, above all, Love's bond of perfectness,

The bond 'gainst which discord may not prevail,

The bond which faileth not when all things fail,

That men may read, the while they come and go,

The sign He gave: "By this shall all men know—"
